Millions of adherents are religiously clinging to a new technological vision of the future called the singularity. “The singularity is a scientific term that states humanity will reach an epoch where intelligence is 1 trillion time more powerful that it is today; thus spawning creative and intellectual growth so vast the mankind will evolve into what can best be described as gods.”1
Simply put when man is able to merge with his own creations, aka supercomputers, lab grown super organs, bionic limbs, and nanotech medical implants, he will become other than human or transhuman. Human rules and definitions will be left behind. A new creation will allow itself a new privileged status. A transhuman manifesto will accompany this singularity. A charter of transhuman rights will elevate those willing to adopt it to a notion of revised godhood.
Transhumanists are not some fringe of society, but a growing mass of practitioners who believe in this new definition of immortality and thus a new man made salvation. The Google director of engineering is Ray Kurzweil, the author of The Singularity is Near. He has put Google’s techno development superstructure in a trajectory that seeks these goals. Google is arguably the most powerful company in the world and is rapidly subjecting governments and cultures to its futuristic ideals by the steady implementation of the products it creates and sells.
Consider the CEO of Tesla Motors, Elon Musk. His entry into private space travel is connected with his belief that we can escape earth’s soon and ultimate destruction by living in outer space even if that form of life is a cryogenic frozen body and a downloaded brain, to be resurrected in an even more advanced future. It sounds science fiction like, but it is a vision being pursued with a brazen faith.
Transhumanists with the singularity vision even have a candidate for president, Zoltan Istvan. His recent article on the replacement of the old military industrial complex with a more economically viable scientific techno medical complex envisions a new constitution that enables people with the choice to live indefinitely through the singularity if they want to. Will such a humanistic ideal really progress to rule the world? Transhumanists argue that we are already on our way there with interconnected homes, cars and smartphones. We are becoming the singularity in our daily being.
Of course, such a promise was given to Eve in the garden of Eden by the Devil himself. “Ye shall be as gods,” he said. This could only be swallowed by the first couple after they had rejected God’s Word. “Hath God said?” was the Devil’s inception of rebellion against God into the world. And so now we are on the precipice of a global pandemic of rebellion against God in order to realize the very same fruits of the very first lie. Immortality or eternal life in and of ourselves is the ultimate vision of the singularity.
While technology may be a marvelous tool for the world today, the pseudo theology that accompanies it smacks of a Luciferian deception of the highest order. Why not mark those that embrace the singularity vision with a symbol of this new godhood?
The Biblical vision of simplicity runs counter to the modern vision of singularity.
“For our rejoicing is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in simplicity and godly sincerity, not with fleshly wisdom, but by the grace of God, we have had our conversation in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.” -2 Corinthians 1:13
“But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 11:3
